Rationalisation of the electricity network in the area between Florence and Arezzo

TERNA: DEMOLITION OF THE 132 kV OVERHEAD POWER LINE STARTED IN

FIGLINE - PIRELLI, IN VALDARNO

€5.5 million will be invested to free 6 hectares of land

Rome, 16 June 2021 - This morning Terna began demolition of the pylons and foundations of the 132 kV "Figline - Pirelli" overhead line in the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno (FI), which are no longer necessary thanks to the construction of the underground cable, which has been in operation since the end of May.

The project, for which Terna will invest a total of about €5.5 million, is part of the environmental compensation works for the construction of the 380 kV "Casellina-Tavarnuzze-Santa Barbara" line.

After the removal of the conductors and the shield wires in recent days, activities for the dismantling of 13 supports and their foundations will begin today, for a total length of 3 km, which will allow 6 hectares of land to be freed from the impact of the electrical infrastructure, making a significant improvement to the landscape of the areas concerned.

The removal was preceded by an intense dialogue with local administrations to define the best methods for demolishing the pylons: once they have been decommissioned, it will be possible to recover materials such as steel and concrete which will then be entrusted to specialised companies to be reused. The construction sites will be operation for about three weeks and at the end the landscape will be restored.

Terna, which manages over 5,230 km of high and extra-high-voltage power lines and 55 electrical substations in the Region, as part of its 2021-2025 "Driving Energy" Business Plan, will invest over €515 million in Tuscany to develop the regional electricity grid and increase its resilience in view of the energy transition that Terna promotes. Around €130 million of the total investment in the region will be devoted to modernising existing assets.
