TERNA: MEETING TO PRESENT THE PROJECT FOR THE NEW SUVERETO (LIVORNO) ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION TO THE COMMUNITY

On 2 September, starting from 17:00, Terna will explain all the details of the new infrastructure designed by the Florence firm Pierattelli Architetture, winner of the architectural contest

The project is part of the plan to modernise the Sa.Co.I.3, the electricity connection

between Sardinia, Corsica and the Italian peninsula.

Rome, 26 August, 2021 - Thursday, 2nd September, starting from 17:00, in Piazza Gabriele D'Annunzio in Severeto (Livorno), Terna will present the community the winning project from the architectural contest for the new electrical substation, which will be built in the municipality of Livorno. The project is part of the plan to modernise the Sa.Co.I.3, the 200-kV DC electricity connection between Sardinia, Corsica and the Italian peninsula.

The architects from the Florence firm Pierattelli Architetture who designed the system will participate in the presentation alongside Terna technicians. Digital monitors and installations representing the materials selected for the new building will explain the details of the infrastructure, which will be built inside the area where Terna's existing Suvereto electrical substation stands.

The project - chosen from the 28 others which entered the contest promoted by Terna in May of 2020 - aims to make the building aesthetically congruent with and integrated into the surrounding environment. Specifically, the substation's façades will be modular and made from terracotta, a traditionally local material. Furthermore, the building will be surrounded by native plant species, including olive, cypress and pine trees, to create continuity with the adjacent agricultural landscape.

The project also involves restoring the entire area around the existing Terna Suvereto substation in order to harmonise it with the surrounding environment, a requirement championed by the local municipal authority and which was met through productive collaboration between the authority and Terna.
