Terna: new underground cable connections authorised for the Municipality of Caselle Torinese in the Province of Turin

€4.4 million investment to improve local electricity grid efficiency

TERNA: NEW UNDERGROUND CABLE CONNECTIONS AUTHORISED FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF CASELLE TORINESE IN THE PROVINCE OF TURIN

Rome, 21 January 2021 - The Ministry of Ecological Transition has approved the project planned by Terna in the Municipality of Caselle Torinese in the Metropolitan City of Turin for the construction of two new 132 kV underground power lines.

With an investment of €4.4 million, Terna will provide for the construction of two underground connections that will be 3.2 km long. The project will make it possible to connect the new "Caselle" Primary Cabin, belonging to the local distributor, to the existing 132 kV Ciriè - Venaria power line, improving the quality and efficiency of the local grid also in light of future commercial development and services in the area adjacent to the Caselle Torinese airport.

The new underground power lines will have XLPE insulation, an advanced technology that requires little maintenance. The executive design and all the preparations for this project will start in the coming months. The work, which is expected to start in 2023, will be carried out with all involved parties and will last approximately 12 months, employing 4 companies and 20 operators.

As part of its 2021-2025 Driving Energy Business Plan, Terna - which manages 5,400 km of high and extra-high-voltage lines and 65 electrical substations in the region - will invest over €370 million in Piedmont to develop the local electricity grid and increase its resilience as part of the energy transition promoted by the company.
