TERNA: NEW UNDERGROUND POWER LINE AUTHORISED BETWEEN ROCCARASO AND RIVISONDOLI IN THE PROVINCE OF AQUILA

The project will ensure greater reliability of the grid in an area which has high volumes of

tourism

Investment of over €10 million

Rome, 13 January 2021 - The Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition approved a project that involves the construction of a new 150-kV power line, which will be almost completely underground and will connect the S. Angelo - Cocullo Brulli power line and the Primary Cabin in Roccaraso, in the municipalities of Roccaraso and Rivisondoli - at about 1,200 meters above sea level - in the province of L'Aquila.

Terna will invest over €10 million for the new connection, which will be approximately 9 km long, with only 200 meters of overhead power lines and the rest underground cable.

The project has been planned taking into consideration a system of social, environmental and territorial indicators, making it possible to assess the effects of electrical planning in the area in question. Completion of the project will ensure greater reliability of the grid in an area which has high volumes of tourism.

Terna, which manages 2,300 km of high and extra-high-voltage lines and 25 electrical substations in the region, has planned significant projects for Abruzzo to develop the regional electricity grid and increase its resilience as part of the energy transition promoted by the company. Three of these projects are: the Adriatic Link which will unite Abruzzo with the Marche via the sea and for which Terna will invest one billion euros, the 380 kV "Gissi- Larino-Foggia" overhead power line and the restructuring of the Teramo-Pescara electricity grid that will affect 4 municipalities in the province of Pescara.
