Marche

Rome, 15 September 2021 - The cycle of "Terna Meets" events, organised by the company that manages the national electricity grid, with the municipalities of Abruzzo and Marche affected by the Adriatic Link, the new undersea power line that will unite Marche and Abruzzo, ended on the afternoon of Tuesday 14 September.

Between 6 and 14 September Terna presented the new infrastructure project, in which it will invest over €1 billion, to the citizens of the municipalities of Montesilvano, Città Sant'Angelo, Cappelle sul Tavo, Spoltore and Cepagatti (province of Pescara) and Silvi (province of Teramo) in Abruzzo and the municipalities of Fano and Cartoceto, both in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in Marche.

The response from citizens and local associations was positive, as was the participation of local institutions, confirming the work carried out during the voluntary consultation stage. Between 2020 and 2021, Terna organised around 90 meetings with regional and municipal administrations, associations and citizens to collect proposals and ideas related to the project.

During the meetings with the citizens, Terna's technicians explained the possible locations of the two future converter substations: in Abruzzo near the existing Cepagatti electrical substation, in the Marche region next to the existing one in the Municipality of Fano or in the agricultural area of the Municipality of Cartoceto.

Up until 29 October 2021, administrations, citizens and stakeholders can submit their comments by writing to info.marche-abruzzo@terna.it.These will be included in the documentation that Terna will send to the Ministry of Ecological Transition to start of the authorisation process.

The Adriatic Link, about 270 km long, 230 of which is undersea cable, will strengthen the exchange of energy in the central axis of the peninsula, guaranteeing safety and flexibility to the national electricity system and allowing it to achieve the objectives of increasing energy from renewable sources. The project forms part of the National Transmission Grid Development Plan and is included in the works set out by the PNIEC (Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan), which has the goal of decarbonising the energy system by 2030.
