TERNA: UPGRADING WORKS ON FIVE PYLONS OF THE 132 KV

BULCIAGO - LECCO POWER LINE

The improvements will increase reliability and efficiency of the entire power line

Performed in synergy with all local entities, the Prefecture of Lecco, ANAS, RFI and the

Authority of the Lario and minor lakes basin

Rome, 13 April 2021 - Five pylons dating back to the 1930s in the municipalities of Pescate and Lecco will undergo important upgrading over the coming days aimed at significantly increasing the reliability and efficiency of the 132 kV Bulciago - Lecco power line owned by Terna, operator of the national transmission grid. Works will affect a stretch of approximately 1.1 km near the Ponte Manzoni bridge over the river Adda.

The works will begin with preparatory activity on 14 April and continue until 15 July, following a schedule agreed between Terna and the municipal administrations and other local entities, the Prefecture of Lecco, ANAS, RFI and the Authority of the Lario and minor lakes basin. Works will predominately take place during night-time hours and avoiding peak times, in order to minimise disruption to traffic, particularly on the SS 36 - Lago di Como e dello Spluga and urban roads in Lecco around Corso Carlo Alberto. Temporary traffic diversions will be indicated locally with appropriate signage. Activity affecting railway areas (RFI Lecco - Sondrio and Lecco - Bergamo lines) and the Adda river will be performed exclusively during night-time hours.

Works involve the strengthening of foundations and complete replacement of three pylons located in the municipality of Lecco, which will be rebuilt in the exact same positions and with a similar height and form to the current pylons. Another two pylons will see renewal of components of the asset. Finally, over 3,300 metres of electrical conductors will be replaced along with the shield wire between all five pylons.

Over the next five years, Terna will invest over € 520 million in Lombardy, out of a total of € 8.9 billion nationally, to increase the resilience of the regional electricity grid in the context of the current energy transition, in which the company has a central role. This commitment puts Lombardy at the forefront with approximately 30% of total investments by Terna planned in Northern Italy. Out of total capital expenditure, around € 260 million is allocated to upgrading and improving the resilience of existing assets.
