Terumo : Vietnam Factory to Implement Large-scale Solar Panels in FY2022 Towards Realization of Carbon Neutrality

TOKYO, JAPAN - March 29, 2022 - Terumo Corporation (TSE: 4543) today announced that it will implement large-scale solar panels on the premises of Terumo Vietnam factory in Hanoi city which produces products for the Cardiac and Vascular Company. The installation is scheduled to be completed in FY2022 starting April 1, 2022. With the solar panels and by utilizing a Tradable Green Certificate, the factory will reduce the amount of CO2 (Carbon dioxide) emissions and all the electricity used at the factory will be derived from renewable energy.

In Vietnam, coal-fired power generation is the main resource of electricity supply and with the increase in electricity usage recently, the impacts on the environment are also drawing attention.

Under this situation, the Terumo Vietnam factory will implement large-scale solar panels with a total output of approximately 3.15MW in all three buildings in FY2022. Through this initiative, it will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 2,700 tons annually and cover 14% of the total power consumption in the factory. In addition, the factory will aim for stable factory operation by this in-house power generation.

Furthermore, all the electricity used at the factory will be derived from renewable energy by obtaining the Tradable Green Certificate I-REC*¹ which originates from electricity generated by renewable energy in Vietnam. The factory is expected to achieve virtually zero CO2 emissions from electricity use in FY2022.

Terumo commits to achieve carbon neutrality*² for greenhouse gas emission (Scope 1 and 2) by 2040. Terumo also has been tackling with reducing the environmental impact through reducing CO2 emission and waste, making effective use of natural resources, as well as developing environmentally friendly products. Through these activities, Terumo will work towards shrinking the global issue of climate change.
