Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has asked Tesla boss Elon Musk to build the next factory in Turkey. This is reported by Turkish state news agency Anadolu.

Tesla already has factories in different parts of the world. Musk's company has production facilities in the United States, Germany and China. Six of those factories are so-called giga factories. A seventh is currently being built in Mexico.

In related news, Erdogan met with Musk this weekend during a meeting at the Turkish House, a skyscraper near the United Nations in New York.

  • The Turkish president asked the billionaire to build the next Tesla factory in his country. "Erdogan recalled that Tesla entered the Turkish market with the electric car Togg and called on Tesla to establish its next factory in Turkey," Anadolu reported.
  • According to the news agency, Musk replied that a number of Turkish suppliers are already working with Tesla and that Turkey is "one of the main candidates" for its next factory.
  • By the way, Erdoğan is not the first world leader to court the Tesla CEO. France, Spain and Italy have all expressed interest in a Tesla factory on their territory.
    • Musk said back in May that the automaker would likely choose a location for a new factory by the end of this year.
    • The billionaire is also ogling India. He sat down with Piyush Goyal, India's minister of trade and industry, earlier this year to review options.

Cooperation with SpaceX

Also this: Erdogan not only wants Musk to come down to Turkey with Tesla.

  • He also indicated during the meeting with the billionaire that he is interested in a cooperation between SpaceX, Musk's space company, and the Turkish space agency.
  • The Turkish president invited the world's richest man to Teknofest, Turkey's largest aviation, space and technology festival taking place in late September to late October this year.

Noted: Musk had his son with him during the meeting with Erdogan.
