Late last week the upscale automaker, Tesla, filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to use it familiar stylized "T" as the emblem of a restaurant brand, according to document filed with the U.S. Commerce Department office.

That application's ultimate intention was backed up earlier this week by an entry on the Teslarati website headlined simply, "Tesla is officially planning to enter the restaurant business."

The entry states the trademark application is under review for use of that "Superman-like" T as a symbol of "restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurant services, take-out restaurant services."

According to the trademark office, the application is accepted, but not yet assigned to an examiner.

Previously, Tesla CEO Elon Musk relayed plans by the company to open a drive-in movie theater with a diner at a 62-stall Santa Monica, California super-charging station that Musk said in a Tweet would be a 1950s-style diner that featured movie clips. The effort, if and when it comes to fruition, ultimately will be an interesting blend of retro and fast-forward favorites.

QSRweb had not received a response for details about the concept as of presstime, including whether it would be a true traditional QSR or some other service category.
