The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), and Blue Origin, with a view to promoting and facilitating commercial and industrial advances in the field of low Earth orbit (LEO) space exploration.

The memorandum provides for non-exclusive collaboration to assess opportunities for hosting European payloads and even crew members on board the station.

Orbital Reef will offer a comprehensive range of services: cargo and passenger transport, accommodation for astronauts, and the operation of scientific and industrial payloads.

This partnership marks a step towards an expanded European presence in the commercial low-Earth orbit market, leveraging the industrial capabilities of Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), and the space infrastructure developed by Blue Origin.
