Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has announced that it has signed a €263m contract with prime contractor OHB System AG for the development of key components for ESA's LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) mission.

Consisting of three satellites, this mission will study gravitational waves generated by numerous celestial phenomena and extend the cosmic horizon to the era before the formation of stars and galaxies.

Thales Alenia Space will supply several key elements of the mission, including the avionics and satellite control software, the telecommunications system and the DFACS attitude control and drag compensation system.

The company will also be responsible for ensuring the exceptional operational environment of the payload in terms of electromagnetics, radiation, and the mission's own gravity, for which it also manages the budgets.
