Thales has announced the launch of a new radar for simultaneous civil and military air traffic surveillance, the RSM NG/IFF (Identification Friend or Foe), which will contribute to the success of missions in shared airspace.

This secondary surveillance radar, the only one of its kind in the world, can identify aircraft based on three standards used in the civil and military sectors (NATO, ICAO, and ADS-B), thereby ensuring coordination between civil and military airspace.

Its unique architecture simultaneously provides air traffic controllers with civil and military information, while ensuring the separation and confidentiality of military data using the latest cybersecurity capabilities.

Thales' RSM NG/IFF enables the creation of an accurate national air picture and optimized flight paths for aircraft operating in increasingly congested airspace, it said.
