BOEING received a confidence boost yesterday after Norwegian Air placed an order for 50 737 MAX and secured options for a further 30 planes at an undisclosed price.

Norwegian Air called the order a "landmark deal" as the carrier will revert to owning a significant chunk of its fleet, which is set to be delivered between 2025 and 2028.

As part of its strategy to avoid bankruptcy, Norwegian Air was forced to lease its fleet last year.

The deal is seen as the latest vote of confidence for Boeing, which is on its way back after a troubled few months.

Norwegian Air's is the second major deal recently concluded by Boeing, with BA owner IAG putting in an order for 50 737 aircraft earlier this month.

"This is another vote of confidence in the recertified and revitalised Boeing 737 MAX," aviation analyst Sally Gethin told City A.M.

"The new order marks a renewed confidence in the aircraft that once struggled to return to the skies."
