BOSTON (AP) _ Boston Beer Co. (SAM) on Thursday reported a loss of $2 million in its first quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Boston-based company said it had a loss of 16 cents.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.05 per share.

The brewer posted revenue of $457.3 million in the period.
