This year marks the 160th anniversary of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas). This December, the Company is launching a series of events, including a miniblocks charity sale, an Instagram photo contest, and a new corporate video showing on social media and MTR platforms to share Towngas' philosophy of 'Smart Energy for a Brighter Future'.

The four gas street lamps on Duddell Street in Central were declared a monument in 1979 and are still providing lighting services in Hong Kong. Towngas has launched a charity sale of the Duddell Street Gas Lamps DIY Miniblocks, featuring the four gas lamps and the stone steps in which they are located in a beautiful miniature set. The net proceeds from the sale will go to Hong Kong Community Network to help children of ethnic minorities, promoting social diversity and harmony.

The sets are available now at all Towngas Customer Centres at $160 each. Mr Isaac Yeung Chung-kwan, the Head of Corporate ESG / Head of Corporate Affairs of Towngas, remarked, 'The Duddell Street gas lamps are one of the most symbolic signs of Towngas. They have witnessed the development of Hong Kong over the past century, and become a collective memory of the Hong Kong public. We are now releasing the miniature set to promote public benefit activities, using creativity to 'revitalise' this precious historical heritage and give it new meaning and value.' Separately, on 3 December, a new Towngas corporate video will be premiered on social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and WeChat. It will also be shown on the platforms of ten MTR stations, including Central, Admiralty, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, etc.

The video, titled 'Smart Energy for a Brighter Future', shows the direction of the Group's business development. 'Our choice of 3 December for the video premiere is particularly meaningful. On 3 December 1864, two years after its establishment, Towngas lit the first gas street lamp on Queen's Road. Since then, the Company has been closely linked to the daily life of the public, serving thousands of households to this day.' Mr Yeung added. In addition, Towngas has launched the 'Towngas 160th Anniversary - All is Well, All is Bright' Instagram photo contest on Instagram, where participants are encouraged to creatively tell their unique stories with the Towngas street lamps through photos. From 3 December 2022 until 11 February 2023, the best entries will be selected every week for 10 consecutive weeks, and each winner will receive 2 a fabulous prize.
