MARYSVILLE, Ohio (AP) _ Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. (SMG) on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $310 million.

The Marysville, Ohio-based company said it had net income of $5.43 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, were $5.64 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $5.51 per share.

The lawn and garden products company posted revenue of $1.83 billion in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.74 billion.

Scotts shares have climbed 14% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 80% in the last 12 months.
