MARYSVILLE, Ohio (AP) _ Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. (SMG) on Wednesday reported fiscal third-quarter earnings of $225.9 million.

The Marysville, Ohio-based company said it had net income of $3.94 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $3.98 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $3.50 per share.

The lawn and garden products company posted revenue of $1.61 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.51 billion.

Scotts expects full-year earnings in the range of $9 to $9.30 per share.

Scotts shares have declined 11% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 12% in the last 12 months.
