A new opportunity

Trey's college job situation started on the golf course. A solid job, no doubt, plus the opportunity to work outside. Then a family friend told him about a seasonal merchandiser job at ScottsMiracle-Gro. Trey was interested. He learned he could work three days a week around his class schedule. He would gain lawn and garden product knowledge, work with retailers and stay on the move, positioning product inside and outside of stores. He was in.

Job skills, life skills

As Trey started to grow into the role, he began to develop skills that he'd be able to use throughout his career: relationship building, sales skills and the importance of product positioning. When meeting with store managers of two leading U.S. retailers, Trey learned how to foster a great rapport with his partners. His managers helped him develop his sales acumen, showing him direct results based on hard work and product placement.

Part of the company family

While the merchandiser job is seasonal and part time, Trey felt a part of the ScottsMiracle-Gro family. As an employee, he had an inside look at the way a national, publicly traded company works. He gained insight from watching company town halls and attended sales conferences, where he saw direct impact of his work translated into sales numbers. What's next?

As a senior in college, Trey is ready to take the next step in his career. It just so happens that he has earned a promotion and a full-time role on the team.
