What happens when you're trying to raise a family, grow your career, navigate a pandemic and maintain a personal life at the same time?

For Michael, it meant it was time to find a new job.

His former employer did not understand the magnitude of raising three children under four years old while trying to be successful in his career, surrounded by COVID-19. He made the decision to look for a new opportunity. He had a lot of criteria he was looking for in his new employer, but there was one thing that was non-negotiable. Family had to be important to them.

During his search, he came across ScottsMiracle-Gro's (SMG)websiteand saw many mentions of family and family culture on the pages. He decided to pursue a role, and he landed a job atHawthorne, a subsidiary of SMG.

As Michael took part in the onboarding process, he was excited to hear about all of the Employee Resource Groups (ERG) available to associates, but he noticed one group was missing. The company had a family mindset, but it didn't have a family-specific ERG.

Michael knew there were many people like him, seeking the best ways to balance the opportunity to build a career and life. So he found the right channels and started Scotts Family TREE, the newest ERG available to associates.

Scotts Family TREE (Together Respecting, Empowering & Encouraging Families) is designed to nurture employees by providing the education, resources and community their family needs to grow at work and at home. The group meets regularly to help associates build bridges with other associates who are working and raising families. With a long-term vision to partner with company leadership to strategically implement new programs and policies that support families companywide, Scotts Family TREE is committed to helping the company recruit and retain associates in the future.

People often say they'll do anything for their family. For Michael, he found a new job and started a new group to not only improve life for his family, but also for so many associates' families at the company.
