The Star celebrates renewal of local wildlife partnership with exclusive accommodation package

11 December 2020

The Star Gold Coast has thrown its support behind one of the city's most iconic wildlife experiences, celebrating the renewal of its five-year partnership with Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation through the launch of a Wildlife Starcation accommodation package.

In a boost to drive local tourism as the sector continues to recover from the pandemic, The Star Gold Coast will release a Wildlife Starcation summer accommodation package that entices guests to the wild side, offering tickets to the popular, heritage-listed Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary for exciting wildlife encounters, tours, educational talks and more.

The Star Gold Coast COO Jessica Mellor said she was incredibly proud to support the local icon in continuing to educate and entertain the next generation, while also renewing its vital partnership with the Foundation to help deliver vital care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife into the summer season.

"The devastation of last year's catastrophic bushfires, coupled with the crippling effects of this year's pandemic, touched all of us in one way or another," Ms Mellor said.

"As a long-standing Gold Coast tourism destination, we wanted to develop a unique summer accommodation package that drove support to one of our most iconic, and important, local experiences.

"Although Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary offers a diversity of fun activities to explore, a visit to the Sanctuary is not complete without a trip to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital where visitors can witness its life-saving work treating, rehabilitating, and releasing sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife.

"Through our ongoing partnership, we hope to continue raising awareness about the need to protect our natural surroundings and the unique wildlife that call this beautiful part of the world home."

The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital is one of the world's busiest wildlife hospitals and admits over 12,000 patients each year - a service provided free of charge to the community through the work of the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation, which The Star Gold Coast has proudly supported since 2015.

Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation Director, Whitney Luzzo-Kelly, welcomed The Star Gold Coast's support as they entered one of their busiest seasons.

"The time to act is now as we continue to face severe drought conditions and see around a 20 per cent

increase in animal admissions from in and around local fire zones," Ms Luzzo-Kelly said.

"Over the last 12 months, we have cared for wildlife through floods, fires, heatwaves and a global human pandemic, so the generosity we have received from the community has allowed us to make a difference. Giving is not just a donation.

"We're delighted to see The Star Gold Coast strengthen its contribution this year through its bespoke hotel package and we hope it will inspire families to experience all the coast has to offer while learning about our native wildlife."

The Star Gold Coast's summer accommodation packages run from now until 28 February 2021. Starting from $242 per night, the Wildlife Starcation accommodation package includes two adult tickets to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, an overnight stay in The Star Grand, and breakfast for two at Harvest.
