He expects a decision from the Scandinavian country at the beginning of January, said TKMS boss Oliver Burkhard in an interview with the "FAZ". Norway had already indicated that it wanted to increase the number of submarines from the German-Norwegian submarine program. It was only on Wednesday that the Bundestag and the German government had spoken out in favor of the procurement of submarines from the program, with pledges amounting to five billion euros being made to TKMS. Four 212CD class submarines are to go to the German Armed Forces and two more could be delivered to Norway.
The orders give TKMS a tailwind - after all, Thyssenkrupp is considering spinning off the subsidiary and taking it public. But industrial partnerships are also on the cards. "We will lay our cards on the table in January or February," the TKMS boss told the newspaper. "We have become more valuable," added Burkhard, referring to the orders. "We are making good progress towards our goal of becoming independent," he also explained in a TKMS press release.
