Capital and Business Alliance Agreement between
Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. and CareNet, Inc.
Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (President and Group CEO: Satoru Komiya, hereinafter referred to as "TMHD") and CareNet, Inc. (President & COO: Katsuhiro Fujii, hereinafter referred to as "CareNet") announced that they have entered into a capital and business alliance agreement in the healthcare domain.
1. Background and Objectives of the Alliance
Currently, Japan is facing many social issues such as an increase in social security costs due to the aging society and a decrease in the working age population, and it is becoming extremely important for people to maintain their health condition. Against this backdrop, advances in technology in the healthcare field have led improvements in disease diagnosis and prevention technologies, and it is expected that there will be advancement in early diagnosis and disease prevention services. In addition, it is becoming increasingly important to properly grasp the health condition by utilizing the collected data through health examinations, and to advise behavioral change that would lead to a healthier lifestyle.
In the healthcare field, TMHD delivers not only "Safety and Security" through insurance products, but also aims to provide value added services to avoid risks, such as "Health and Productivity Management" and "Industrial Hygiene Support" services.
CareNet is a medical information company that operates a website "CareNet.com" for medical professionals, and carries a large network of physicians. In October 2020, CareNet has entered into a business alliance agreement with the University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Health Management System, LLP (Representative Partner: Shinya Matsuda, hereinafter referred to as "UHMS") * to launch a data science based health management business. CareNet will continously active on promoting businesses in the healthcare field.
- UHMS is a non-profit organization funded by the University of Occupational and Environmental Health, and has a wealth of research results in health management through integrated analysis of medical examination data, health insurance receipt data, attendance data.
TMHD and CareNet have signed a "Capital and Business Alliance Agreement" to develop new insurance products and healthcare services that make full use of data and technology. TMHD, in partnership with CareNet, plans to develop original data platform and aim to create new insurance products and health care services by combining the Tokio Marine Group's various risk prevention know-how with CareNet's and UHMS's expertise in disease prediction
based on vast amounts of health related data. By strengthening these data strategy, TMHD plans to deliver health risk mitigation services to corporations by leveraging the expertise of both companies, as well as providing insurance coverages to high risk profile clients.
TMHD and CareNet will take on the challenge of creating cutting-edge healthcare solutions that solve social issues, with the aim of meeting the needs of customers who want to maintain good health.
Addionally, shares of CareNet is planned to be held by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (President: Shinichi Hirose), a subsidiary of Tokio Marine Holdings.
