Tokyo Gas Asia Pte. Ltd. (President: ENDO yo, hereinafter "Tokyo Gas Asia"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (President: UCHIDA takashi, hereinafter "Tokyo Gas"), acquired 33.4% of the shares of an Indonesian gas distribution company, PT Super Energy Tbk (President Director: Agustus Sani Nugroho, hereinafter "SE") from its parent company, PT Super Capital Indonesia (President Director: Agustus Sani Nugroho) on November 25th. Prior to this acquisition, on November 24th, Tokyo Gas Asia acquired approximately 18% of the shares of PT Energy Mina Abadi (President Director: Agustus Sani Nugroho), a subsidiary of SE which also operates gas distribution business. This acquisition is the fifth occasion on which Tokyo Gas has invested in a local gas distribution company globally.
On the back of the world's fourth largest population and stable economic growth, Indonesia's demand for energy is expected to increase over the long term. In order to capture business opportunities, Tokyo Gas opened a representative office in Indonesia in 2015 and has been aggressively expanding its business.
SE company group ("SE Group") is a gas distribution company group mainly based in Java that refines and compresses unutilized gas such as associated gas produced from oil wells and natural gas from small-scale gas fields, and supplies the gas in the form of compressed natural gas (CNG) to industrial customers. SE Group plans to pursue reductions of CO2 emissions in the country by increasing utilization of unused gas and encouraging industrial customers, who consume liquid fossil fuels with high CO2 emissions, to fuel-switch to natural gas.
The Tokyo Gas Group's management vision, "Compass 2030", envisages the expansion and diversification of its global businesses and the realization of a net zero CO2 emission society. We will leverage our technology and expertise in the domestic LNG value chain to support the SE Group and facilitate the penetration of clean energy in Indonesia.
