Toray Announces Update on UL Certification for Toray Resin and Implementation of Measures to Prevent Recurrence of Inappropriate Actions

Tokyo - Toray Industries, Inc., today announced that it has completed its investigation of UL certified resins that was initiated as a result of Toray's press release on January 31, 2022.
In addition to the withdrawal of 52 UL certified resins that occurred on March 31, 2022, 10 additional resins will be withdrawn, effective August 31, 2022.
Of the resins that have been withdrawn, 28 have been re-certified under new grade designations of August 31, 2022. The re-certification of 1 resin under a new grade designation is still pending.
Toray once again sincerely apologizes to the users of these materials and various companies who have been affected by the inappropriate actions.
Toray takes this series of actions with the utmost seriousness. Guided by the recommendations in the report of the expert committee that investigated the matter, which were announced previously on April 12, 2022, as well as by instructions received from UL and other directives, Toray senior management will continue to lead the implementation of definitive measures formulated by its board of directors to prevent recurrence, making every effort to regain the trust of customers and the broader society.
Toray Industries, Inc. is a diversified group organized around 5 areas of activity:
- fiber and textile production (38.2% of net sales): nylon, polyester, acrylic fibers, non-woven products, etc.;
- plastic and chemical manufacture (38.2%): resins, plastic films, fine chemicals, etc.;
- engineering and environmental services (10.3%): development, construction, and assembly of industrial units, manufacture of seawater desalinization equipment, wastewater treatment equipment, etc.;
- production of carbon fibers (9.7%);
