KAWASAKI, JAPAN―Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (hereinafter 'Toshiba ESS') announced today that it has signed an agreement with PXiSE Energy Solutions, LLC, (hereinafter 'PXiSE') the developer and vendor of control software for disperse the power supply, and MITSUI & CO., LTD., (hereinafter 'Mitsui') on a study for a technology and sales alliance of providing the Distributed Power Control Solutions to increase adoption of Micro Grid in Japan and international market. We will aim for expansion of micro grid-oriented service based on this agreement.

A microgrid is a local energy network that independently and reliably provides consumers such as municipal buildings, office buildings, and schools with required electricity by combining renewable energy with battery storages to control electricity supply, and monitoring electricity demand.
Toshiba ESS has contributed to reduction of carbon dioxide emission by providing electrical grids with reliable microgrid energy management systems, 'μEMS', and installing renewable energy*. In addition to further efforts to install μEMS, by this technology and sales alliance, Toshiba ESS aims at operating resilient microgrids that keep feeding off-grid energy into consumers during blackout, and offering solutions that meet a wide variety of customers' needs.

PXiSE is a software company that has many experiences in developing and offering software that rapidly controls distributed energy resources, 'DERs', such as battery storages. PXiSE has been selling software for energy management and rapid control of DERs that is key component of the microgrid, to renewable energy providers, grid operators and consumers mainly in the U.S. Combining Toshiba ESS's products for controlling renewable energy and DERs supply, and expertise in operating virtual power plants with PXiSE's software, the companies offer a comprehensive DERs solution to efficiently utilize DERs during ordinary times, and function as the microgrid when a disaster happens.
Mitsui has invested in PXiSE in 2018, with wide network both in Japan and overseas, coordinating this alliance through introducing and establishing microgrid projects.

Taking advantage of know-how, technology, and supply chain network, PXiSE, Mitsui and Toshiba ESS continue to offer DERs control solution for the microgrid to customers both in Japan and overseas.
