Total is celebrating the International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3, providing an opportunity to look over the Group's commitments to this cause worldwide. Including and supporting employees with disabilities is a priority for Total and a key part of our diversity policy.

There are currently more than 1 billion people with a disability worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. Our colleagues, as well as our customers and all our stakeholders, may be affected by disability at some point in their lives. That's why we are taking practical measures to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities.

In light of the 2020 global health crisis, this commitment is more meaningful than ever, as it draws on our intrinsic values of Respect for Each Other and Standing Together.

For these reasons, disability is an integral part of our diversity policy. Initially introduced and led in France, our disability initiative has been expanded internationally since October 2018 with the signing of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Global Business and Disability Network Charter.

We are now rolling out this initiative worldwide, working with our affiliates to implement solutions adapted to employees with disabilities. So far, 40 affiliates across five continents have made commitments based on five of the Charter's ten major principles:

  • Promote and respect the rights of persons with disabilities.
  • Develop non-discriminatory policies and practices.
  • Progressively make the company premises and tools accessible.
  • Undertake appropriate measures to enable job retention.
  • Respect confidentiality of personal information regarding disability.

Each of the 40 affiliates is taking action to cultivate these principles. In Argentina, for example, our teams have set up a partnership with nonprofit Cascos Verdes, which promotes inclusion for people with mental disabilities, to create specific training programs around environmental protection and waste recycling. And in Côte d'Ivoire, our HR team has taken part for the third time in the national Handi-Emploi Forum for the recruitment of people with disabilities.

To sum up this commitment, some of our employees have agreed to show how they are giving tangible shape to the Group's message: Total welcomes all energies.

Total Welcomes All Energies
