Oil giant Total SE said Tuesday that it has partnered with energy technology company Siemens Energy AG to work on reducing the carbon emissions derived from liquefied natural gas.

Total, which is the second largest-producer of LNG, said both companies will collaborate to integrate renewable energy in the power systems of liquefaction plants and to make the plants more efficient.

They will also work to develop hydrogen-fueled gas turbines and all-electrical liquefaction and to optimize energy production processes in power plants, it said.

Total said the development of low-carbon LNG will help it meet the growth in global energy demand whilst reducing the carbon intensity of energy products.
