Leading public and private works contractor The HW Martin Group of Companies can now track and manage both its vehicles and plant equipment through an integrated telematics solution.

The Derbyshire-based Group is deploying Trakm8 Asset across its fleet of commercial vehicles, cars, and heavy plant. Designed for contractors, Trakm8 Asset enables companies to track and monitor all types of vehicles and a wide range of plant. To date, Martin has fitted more than 400 tracking devices to company vehicles ranging from light vans through to heavy commercials and also heavy plant such as excavators.

Key objectives for Martin include improving safety and fleet MPG through driver behaviour analytics; reducing fleet maintenance overheads; and using vehicle tracking to further enhance its working time management systems. It also required the telematics solution to integrate with immobilisers for its plant. Because the Trakm8 telematics device communicates with CAN Bus, Trakm8 Asset also provides health alerts, acting as an early-warning system by reading diagnostic fault codes.

Geoff Kearsley of Martin said:'Trakm8 Asset fulfils our criteria for a single, unified telematics system that enabled us to track and trace our vehicles and our plant equipment.

'We looked at several systems, but selected Trakm8 because of the account management and after-sales support that it provides. We also like the fact that the technology is designed and made in Britain - we have access to technical support direct from the factory.'

Martin has a strong presence in waste and recycling, traffic management, fencing, safety fencing, and vehicle/plant maintenance as an authorised DAF Trucks service partner. It has 16 facilities across the UK and around 1,000 employees. Its client base includes Highways England, Network Rail, local authorities, tier one contractors, and utilities companies.

Colin Ferguson, Managing Director of Fleet and Optimisation for Trakm8, said: 'Martin is a great example of the growing demand for single-source solutions, particularly from contractors who typically have a wide-ranging mixed fleet comprised of, LCVs, trucks and plant equipment.

'Trakm8 Asset is uniquely positioned to provide an all-in-one telematics solution that improves fleet safety and efficiency for contractors working in construction, rail, utilities, waste management and industrial services.'
