CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ TransAlta Corp. (TAC) on Friday reported a loss of $54.9 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of 24 cents.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 12 cents per share.

The power generation and marketing company posted revenue of $358.9 million in the period.
