Elon Musk has announced his imminent resignation as Twitter's chief executive. A successor has been found and will take over in around six weeks. Musk did not mention a name at first.

As chief technology officer, he himself wants to take care of more specialized business areas such as products and software in future. At the end of 2022 Musk had announced that he planned to leave the top post - but not until his successor had been appointed. He took over the chief executive post in the course of his approximately $44 billion purchase of the internet platform in October.

However, Musk had always signalled that this was not a permanent solution. He also heads the electric carmaker Tesla and the rocket company SpaceX. Musk's half-year or so as the head of the social media platform has been marked by chaos and controversy.

Current Twitter CEO and owner Elon Musk announced on May 12, 2023 that Linda Yaccarino will take over as CEO. LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while Musk focus on product design & new technology. On May 11, 2023, Musk tweeted that a new CEO would be starting in about six weeks.

Yaccarino previously served as sales chief for NBCUniversal, she also served on former President Donald Trump's Council on Sports and Nutrition. NBCUniversal confirmed that Yaccarino will leave the company.
