Twitter is laying off 784 people in San Francisco and nearly 1,000 people in total across California, according
to filings submitted to state officials. The cuts will take effect as early as Jan. 4, 2023, and employees will be paid until then, the regulatory filings indicate. Musk has said the layoffs were needed to reduce costs at the company, which had 7,500 employees globally at the end of last year. People familiar with the cuts have indicated the layoffs would total about half the workforce globally, or about 3,700 workers.
