Consumer companies fell amid trade-war fears. Constellation Brands, Boston Beers and Anheuser Busch fell. Canada responded to President Trump's 25% tariffs on Canadian imports with its own measures to pull American booze from its shelves.
The Liquor Control Board of Ontario, one of the biggest alcohol suppliers in the Toronto region, said it would pull all American alcohol from its government-run liquor shelves starting Tuesday, the day the Trump tariffs are due to kick in.
"The consumer area would certainly be one look at for some of the retaliatory measures," said J.D. Joyce, president of Houston financial advisory Joyce Wealth Management.
Meat packer Tyson Foods cited "exceptional" results in chicken sales as it reported operating earnings far in excess of Wall Street targets.
