KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ UMB Financial Corp. (UMBF) on Tuesday reported second-quarter profit of $87.4 million.

The bank, based in Kansas City, Missouri, said it had earnings of $1.79 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.80 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.74 per share.

The bank holding company posted revenue of $344.2 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $339.3 million, also exceeding Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $311.8 million.

UMB shares have risen 28% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $88.65, an increase of 89% in the last 12 months.
