The Indonesian Government recommends the breast cancer self-check program which we promote, and the Pink Ribbon Campaign is a collaborative effort between the Breast Cancer Foundation (YKPI) and the Ministry of Health of the Government of Indonesia.

As part of this initiative, we will support the activities of the YKPI on the official website of "Charm," which is our sanitary product brand in Indonesia, and provide information regarding regular breast cancer self-checks.

At the press conference within Jakarta City

Background of this Campaign

According to the World Health Organization (WHO)*1, breast cancer accounts for a high percentage of all cancers, accounting for more than 10% of new cases. In Indonesia*2, the number of breast cancer patients is increasing, and one of the reasons for this is said to be "low awareness of breast cancer screening.

On the other hand, breast cancer is a cancer that can be detected by women themselves if they acquire appropriate knowledge.

Based on the above, Unicharm Indonesia has started activities to contribute to the dissemination of correct knowledge about breast cancer and to improve the breast cancer screening rate from 2021.

This year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health as well as the YKPI, we announced the slogan "AYO SADARI SETELAH MENSTRUASI" ("Do a self-check after your period" in Indonesian) for the early detection of breast cancer.

Comment by Unicharm Corporation Executive Officer,
PT Uni-Charm Indonesia Tbk President Director Mr. Yuji Ishi

Breast cancer has become a serious health problem in the world and in Indonesia, and there is an urgent need to work together with government agencies and non-governmental organizations. To solve this problem, early detection of breast cancer is necessary, and education towards many women is critical.

In light of the fact that the Breast Cancer Foundation (YKPI) and the Ministry of Health are promoting regular self-checks (SADARI), we wondered how we can contribute as a leading manufacturer of sanitary products. As a result of internal discussions, we decided to announce the slogan "AYO SADARI SETELAH MENSTRUASI," ("Do a self-check after your period" in Indonesian) which recommends regular self-checks (SADARI) after monthly menstruation. We will continue to work with the YKPI to contribute to the realization of early detection of breast cancer in Indonesia through educational programs to raise awareness of regular self-checks (SADARI).

Unicharm Indonesia will also contribute to bringing healthy and happy lives to all Indonesians through specific initiatives aligning with its corporate slogan, "Ethical Living for SDGs" which means "incorporating a little bit of goodness into everyday life".

Contributing to the 17 SDGs through support of the Pink Ribbon Campaign

Unicharm believes that supporting the Pink Ribbon Campaign will contribute to the following 17 goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015.

3. Good Health and Well-Being 17. Partnerships for the Goals

We will continue to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs by solving environmental and social issues through our business activities, including the provision of products and services.
