BERLIN (News) - UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel wants to discuss the planned takeover of Commerzbank with the new German government and hopes to have clarification by year-end, he said in an interview with German daily Faz.
Germany will go to a vote on Feb. 23, and according to polls, conservative chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz could succeed Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, who is against the deal.
"Without the support of an important institution like the German government, it will be difficult," Orcel said. "I hope we will know something by the summer. Overall, we should have answers by the end of the year at the latest."
