WILMINGTON, Mass. (AP) _ UniFirst Corp. (UNF) on Wednesday reported fiscal first-quarter earnings of $41.9 million.

On a per-share basis, the Wilmington, Massachusetts-based company said it had net income of $2.20.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.68 per share.

The uniform provider posted revenue of $446.9 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $440.8 million.

UniFirst shares have fallen slightly since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen almost 4% in the last 12 months.
