Arno Hesse has joined Union Bank of California, N.A., as head of the retail segment management group where he will oversee the development and implementation of financial products for consumers and small businesses. He also will manage new marketing and sales programs targeting retail and small business customers. He reports to Chief Operating Officer Philip Flynn.

Most recently, Hesse guided the implementation of Union Bank's retail banking strategy. He has more than 20 years experience in strategic marketing, helping to design products and marketing campaigns for financial institutions and technology companies. Hesse worked with Wells Fargo, E-Trade, Wachovia, Siemens, Arthur D. Little, Texas Instruments, and National Semiconductor. He also assisted high-tech start-up companies with their marketing and product design.

Hesse grew up in Europe, with an early career in journalism and public relations. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.
