Union Bank of California has promoted Joan M. Berry to executive vice president and head of the consumer asset management division, where she oversees consumer lending products for retail banking. Most recently, Berry served as a senior vice president in the consumer asset division where she managed operations for the bank's $15 billion consumer and residential loan portfolio.

Berry began her banking career with Union Bank in 1969 as a teller at the El Cajon Valley Branch in San Diego County. She later held positions in collections, credit, operations, and regional administration before being promoted to an assistant vice president as an operational analyst in electronic banking in 1981.

In 1982, she took a position with Home Fed Bank in San Diego, working there for 11 years in a variety of positions including operations, item processing and loan servicing, eventually assuming the title of senior vice president.

Berry returned to Union Bank in 1994 to head operations in consumer asset management, as well as managing systems and compliance for the unit.

Berry attended Arapahoe Community College and the Business Banking School. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and lives in El Cajon with her husband, Patrick Murphy. They have four children.
