Uniper : Engineering a skilled workforce for the future

Delivering in the region of 600 courses per year for 4000 delegates, plus supporting the growth of more than 70 apprentices through its award winning apprenticeship programme, Uniper's Engineering Academy in Nottinghamshire is playing a key role in developing engineers of the future. 'We understand that industry is constantly evolving, requiring a regular review of workplace competence to ensure a qualified and effective workforce. That is why we evolve and innovate new course material as well as ensure the ability to tailor our courses to customer needs', explained Nick Booth, Head of Uniper's Engineering Academy. Based on over a decade's experience in power generation and energy distribution as well as long-standing relationships with energy intensive manufacturing and process production customers, the Uniper Engineering Academy has created a suite of courses that support companies with known challenges and continuously adds to them as new challenges unfold.

Uniper's Engineering Academy offers a broad portfolio of training courses which provide a deepening of theoretical knowledge; many of which include 'hands on' practical skills which are typically delivered at our purpose built facility. Located in Ratcliffe-on-Soar in Nottinghamshire, it consists of several engineering workshops, an 11kV 'live' HV network with 7 substations, switch rooms and power plant. If travel is an issue then some of the courses can take place on the attendees' own company site. To deliver outstanding results, Uniper works closely with companies to ensure that their specific requirements are implemented into courses where required. The Academy takes care to convey a personal touch by tailoring parts to each individual business, providing customers with a truly bespoke approach.
