CHICAGO (AP) _ United Airlines Holdings Inc. (UAL) on Tuesday reported third-quarter net income of $473 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Chicago-based company said it had profit of $1.44 per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were $1.02 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 15 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $1.65 per share.

The airline posted revenue of $7.75 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Fifteen analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $7.64 billion.
