PITTSBURGH, March 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, United States Steel Corporation (NYSE:X) President and Chief Executive Officer David B. Burritt announced the advancement of Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Barry Melnkovic to Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.  The advancement was effective March 1, and Melnkovic will continue to report to Burritt. 

Of the new role, Burritt said, “Barry’s experience, enthusiasm, and counsel have been invaluable to me and to our company since his arrival at U. S. Steel last year.  Under his leadership, our Human Resources team has developed a comprehensive, sustainable strategy to help our company invest in our employees, just as we do our operating facilities, ensuring our team members have the skills, capabilities, and supportive, inclusive culture necessary to deliver our strategic business objectives.” 

Melnkovic is renewing the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, leading the “Pivot to the People” initiative, and spearheading efforts to create a high performance culture.  He is also working to enhance the relationship between the company and the labor unions representing a significant portion of its employee population. 

Prior to joining U. S. Steel in May 2017, Melnkovic served as Executive Vice President and Chief Human Capital Officer, Labor Relations, Diversity and Lean Enterprise Solutions for National Railroad Passenger Corporation / Amtrak. Melnkovic was the recipient of the 2016 HR Executive of the Year award by Human Resource Executive magazine.
