Dr. Margaret-Mary Wilson, a high-ranking health executive at UnitedHealth Group Inc., has been named the insurance giant's chief medical officer. Fierce Healthcare has a report on the promotion for Wilson, who most recently was executive vice president and associate chief medical officer. She succeeds Dr. Richard Migliori, who has been with Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth for 25 years and its CMO since 2013. The change is effective December 5. Wilson, who was born and raised in Nigeria, told the Business Journal in 2019 that she'd wanted to be a physician since she was a child; her first job was as a doctor for the Nigeria Police Force when she was 21. She has been at UnitedHealth since 2008, joining from St. Louis University in Missouri where she was an associate professor of internal and geriatric medicine. At UnitedHealth she's had several roles, including senior vice president of UnitedHealthcare Global. Earlier this year she was recognized as a top 100 most influential African American in business by the National Diversity Council and by Diversity Woman's Elite 100 list.
