KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (AP) _ Universal Health Services Inc. (UHS) on Monday reported first-quarter earnings of $142 million.

The King Of Prussia, Pennsylvania-based company said it had net income of $1.64 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.73 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.59 per share.

The hospital and health facility operator posted revenue of $2.83 billion in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.91 billion.

Universal Health Services shares have declined 27% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $105.28, a decline of 20% in the last 12 months.
