January 10, 2014; Hsinchu, Taiwan - Unizyx's subsidary, ZyXEL Communications announced today that the company has obtained ISO50001 and ISO14006 certification for its Energy Management System and Environmental Management Systems (guidelines for incorporating eco design). These certifications indicate that ZyXEL has successfully integrated environmentally friendly values, green-product design and business management.

ZyXEL is a global leader in broadband networking technology, providing a wide portfolio of wired and wireless network solutions for customers ranging from telecommunications service providers to small- and medium-size businesses and home users.

ZyXEL's company philosophy has always been to embrace eco-friendly strategies. The granting of ISO50001 and ISO14006 certification reflects ZyXEL's commitment to sustainable business development.

ZyXEL instilled the ISO14006 Eco-Design Product process into its existing Green Collaboration System at the very early product design and manufacture phases. The mechanism effectively decreased environmental impacts throughout the entire product life cycle. ZyXEL is the first networking company granted ISO 14006 certificate worldwide.

For example, with ZyXEL's Wireless N VDSL2 VoIP Combo WAN Gigabit IAD VMG8324, three factors designed to reduce environmental impacts have been evaluated and improved. These include the wireless on/off function design, leading to estimated energy savings of 886800 KWh/year, corresponding to a 472 tCO2/year emissions reduction; LED indicator on/off function design, saving an estimated 131.4 KWh/year and corresponding to 70 kg CO2/year emissions reduction; and shortened external power cables, reducing waste disposal by an estimated 360 kg/year and lowering as much as USD$962/year.

The ISO14006 Eco-Design process for ZyXEL is a crucial element of integrated product policy. As part of a preventive approach designed to optimise the environmental performance of products while maintaining continued product quality, it will create new opportunities for ZyXEL and the supply chain as a whole.

Furthermore, ZyXEL continues to work on the ISO50001 Energy Management System, which includes power, air conditioning, and lighting systems. ZyXEL has established itself as a green pioneer by being the first within the networking industry to obtain ISO50001 certification. ZyXEL expects to eliminate 386 tonnes of carbon emissions while saving 9,650 trees next year through its energy conservation and carbon reduction operations.

ZyXEL has devoted itself to pollution prevention through a process of continual improvement and environmental protection awareness. ZyXEL adopted the ISO14001 Environmental Management System in 2000. Within the company, ZyXEL held green activities, such as beach cleaning, electronic products recycling, and tree planting in an effort to raise environmental awareness among employees.

In 2014, ZyXEL will maintain its commitment to protecting the environment and continue the development of environmentally friendly green products. ZyXEL will also encourage ISO50001 energy-saving operations among its vendors. ZyXEL always believes that such practices are the best path to creating a sustainable business.
