The Provincial Government of Tete has awarded the company a certificate of merit that recognizes the huge contribution that Vale has made to find global solutions to tackle this pandemic in Mozambique.

Last week, Max Tonela, the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, also praised the role of the company for the economic development of the region and the country. The official visited Vale's operations in Moatize (Tete) and highlighted that the company keeps its entire workforce employed despite the impacts caused by the pandemic. 'The company's top management decided to protect employment and did not reduce its workforce,' stressed Max Tonela, showing his optimism regarding a gradual recovery of the markets. The Minister also recalled that 'coal is the main export product in Mozambique.'

Since the beginning of the new coronavirus pandemic, Vale has proactively adopted several prevention measures. They aim to guarantee the safety and well-being of its workers, business partners, and society.

In April, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government that guaranteed Mozambique a contribution of US$2 million. This humanitarian aid, for several provinces in the country, included hospital equipment, hygiene material, individual protection items for health care professionals, and 80,000 rapid tests.

The company has life as a top priority and complies with all the procedures recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the guidelines of the Mozambican Ministry of Health (MISAU).
