Energy event Powering Africa 2016, is taking place in Abuja, Nigeria from 12-14 October 2016 and will bring the focus of energy experts to Nigeria.

Nigeria's population is the seventh largest in the world with over 180 million people according to the World Bank and like many African countries, struggles with a huge gap between supply and demand creating power shortages and blackouts.

The Powering Africa 2016 event brings experienced companies and sector experts together to exchange views and identify solutions to Nigerian and wider West African energy issues. The sessions will focus on a number of key topics including renewable energy, off-grid energy solutions, power development and diversifying Nigeria's energy mix.

In Vergnet's experience, Africa presents many unique challenges for the renewable energy sector such as extreme temperatures, wind-blown sand, high salinity and more recently governments enforcing policies for electricity charges and increased hike rates.

From industry operators, to communities and private investors, independent power producers (IPPs) and utility companies, Vergnet delivers innovative solutions to every type of customer throughout Africa.

It is certainly not without its challenges but the opportunity to improve the accessibility to electrical power for millions of people by empowering communities with renewable energy is vastly rewarding.

Vergnet takes pride in the fact that its renewable energy solutions have enabled the delivery of essential services to developing countries, such as Ethiopia, where the supplied technology delivers electricity to over 3 million people through Ashegoda wind farm, the biggest wind farm in sub-Saharan Africa with 120 MW installed power.

Vergnet also has experience specifically in Nigeria with its Osogbo solar power plant in Osun State. The project integrates the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of a 13 MWp solar PV plant. The project will also include construction and implementation of a large training centre aimed at paving the way for future solar projects handled by local properly trained Nigerians. Up to 80 engineers and technicians per year will be trained to solar energy techniques.
