ViaSat Inc. said Tuesday that it received approval from a Chinese aviation regulator to install its satellite connectivity system on Boeing Co. 737 aircraft.

The mobile network operator already had regulatory approval to install the system on Airbus SE A320 aircraft in China.

ViaSat said its In-Flight Connectivity system received a validation certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

In-Flight Connectivity links with the Ka-band ChinaSat-16 satellite system to allow video streaming, browsing, messaging and social media scrolling. It can also connect to global networks outside of China.

ViaSat said its certifications allow the company to serve more than three-quarters of the aircraft in China.

In after-hours trading, shares were trading 2.2% higher at $37.22.
