The U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority said Tuesday that it is considering whether Visa Inc.'s agreed acquisition of fintech startup Plaid Inc. would harm competition in the U.K.

The antitrust regulator said it is inviting comments on the transaction from any interested party until July 10.

Visa in January said it would buy Plaid for $5.3 billion, as part of an effort by the card giant to tap into consumers' growing use of financial-technology apps and noncard payments.
