In 2022, financial transactions happen at the speed of life. In less than a decade mobile banking has gone from nice-to-have to need-to-compete, with customers demanding the ability to sell stocks, transfer funds, and secure loans all with a touch of a button. During their decade-long climb to become a leader in financial services, Sterling National Bank has embraced mobile technology and a cloud architecture that enables instant, secure transactions.

"We want to be able to deliver our banking services to [customers] wherever they are, on any device, at any time."

Brendan Welter, CTO/CSO at Sterling National Bank

Sterling Bank Realizes a Zero Downtime Migration

As a commercial, consumer and digital bank, Sterling National Bank has differentiated itself with mobile services that deliver convenience and confidence to its customers. An all-in approach to the cloud allowed them to retire decades of on-premises banking systems while continuing to control computing on their terms-and successfully achieving a zero downtime migration.

After the pivotal decision to dismantle their data centers, Sterling Bank turned to trusted vendors for help. They consulted Deloitte on data center migration, disaster recovery and cloud management services, and partnered with VMware for the innovative technology needed. The Sterling and Deloitte team executed a 'lift and shift' migration, moving Sterling Bank's whole on-premises environment to VMware Cloud on AWS. Rehosting applications in the cloud and using VMware HCX™ enabled a transition so seamless customers and employees experienced zero interruptions to their services. Now, the Sterling National Bank team can monitor the health and capacity of their environment using VMware vRealize® Operations™, centrally managing all functions and identifying risks before they can impact services.

Outcomes of Sterling National Bank's Migration to the Cloud

  • Paperless, seamless digital experience for employees and customers
  • Resiliency - data and operations are protected from disruption by weather, power loss or other adverse events
  • Enable customers to make financial decisions for personal and business matters, wherever they are

VMware Cross-Cloud™ services can help streamline migrations, protect data, create efficiencies and improve outcomes for enterprise businesses whether using a single public cloud provider, expanding to a multi-cloud environment, or managing a multi-cloud estate.
