Volkswagen AG's long-serving works council chairman and supervisory board member is stepping down to join the executive board of the company's Traton SE subsidiary.

Traton said Friday that Bernd Osterloh will be responsible for human resources and take up the position from May 1. He has been chairman of the works council at Volkswagen for 16 years.

The executive-board member mandate at Traton had been vacant following the restructuring of the board in summer 2020.

Volkswagen's works council said Friday that deputy chairwoman Daniela Cavallo will succeed Mr. Osterloh at the helm of the employee representative body. She will also take over Mr. Osterloh's position on the car maker's supervisory board as quickly as possible, the council said.

"Daniela is exactly the right person at the right time to continue working in the team with our strong committees to assert your interests as employees and actively shape the transformation," Mr. Osterloh said in a letter to Volkswagen's workforce.
